People walk past The Daily News, which has closed and is having a liquidation sale. Girl 1: Satanic cults in pizzerias? I can't believe people fall for all the b.s. and fake news online! Makes you wish we had people who'd really check out such stories. Man: Yeah, and people who'd rely only on credible sources! Girl 2: People with editors who'd double-check things!

But even having people with editors forcing them to double-check things, that doesn’t take away the fakery.

There has been a systematic force in play for years to retard the advancement of social systems. Media has been demonized, bought out by corporations to make profits while at the same time reducing the respectability and fact checking of journalists. I could claim (tho without proof) that after Watergate, it was determined to make media outlets unreliable so as to allow business and people in power the ability to do anything the wanted, unfettered by people reporting their actions through reliable outlets.

News started to be “Fake News” when reporters became promoters. When news papers ceased to analyse, and started to declare their doctrine. And now they want to go back to “Pravda, or Gramma” nice going. Stupidity starts with those who chose to fool their viewer or readers, viewers and readers will follow what they are taught. Critical thinking doesn’t mean that you have to think like a “leftie” it means to think for yourself.

Of course, the reality is just the opposite. The reason the newspapers died is because enough people realized that the newspapers only report partial truth. They never have and never will independently pursue “investigative journalism.”-——————————————————————————————————————-
“It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries.”

Someone who knows the history of news media far better than i today mentioned to me some salient points in relation to lack of fact checking and purposeful spread of disinformation.
.
There are historical precidents related to changes in media technology which are echoed in today’s abuse of internet “information”. In the past they were related to the cost of printing.
.
Shortly after the advent of the printing press people were able to get information from sources other than rumor, houses of worship, and governments. Some of what was expressed was inspirational and worthy of real thought. Most was garbage.
.
Then starting in the eighteen hundreds until a while after WWI there was a profusion of small newspapers when it became economically feasible to create those. They tended to be closely aligned with the political parties and sometimes religions of the day, both of which were expanding in number and type, and for the most part a hefty percentage were propaganda sheets. What ended that was the advent of radio for news with the numbers of newspapers constricting and aligning with radio stations. It was their economic status which permitted fact checking.
.
Of course, people CAN use resources like Annenberg’s Fact Check, Snopes and others to fact check today, if not too lazy.
