This program is not a place where personal opinion should be mixed up with ascertainable facts…It is not, I think, humanly possible for any reporter to be completely objective, for we are all to some degree prisoners of our education, travel, reading—the sum total of our experience.
Edward R. Murrow introducing the first broadcast of “This is the News” (September 1947)
American traditions and the American ethic require us to be truthful, but the most important reason is that truth is the best propaganda and lies are the worst. To be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; to be credible we must be truthful. It is as simple as that.
The newest computer can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in the relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it.
Yep, that’s why we got condolences from all our friends around the world when the results were posted. We’re toast, and all those who hoped we had better sense are NOT happy with us…
On the internet? this is in the mainstream press, nothing scarier than that – CNN should be FNN (Fake News Network) – the amazing part is that the clowns on the left (nothing liberal about these folks) just ignore all of the open collusion with their political choices. and it will just continue ….
interesting aside: the portland oregonian has reduced their coverge to a few pages of tabloid trash, but they still charge the same subscription price. Except for the thanksgiving issue for which they charge an extra $3. why? because it has so many more pages (of paid advertising…). the big newspapers have shot themselves in the foot.
