Dogs need to feel useful. Lying around, eating and being petted is just not enough. If Marm wants to take the kids for a ride, that is a purpose. Make Marm work for a living! My dogs all had things that were required of them and they were most happy when doing them.
On the other hand, kids also need exercise and fresh air. Perhaps they can be taken to the park and back home by "Marmaduke Taxi, and the kids can play while at the park.
