So, so true. Dogs are special already, and one thing that makes them that way is they know it and don’t feel they have to “prove” anything. As to people being special, I believe there is more than enough room in this world for all the specialness of life, and all the beauty and mystery of the many, many individual human beings — each of whom is special in a very particular way. There isn’t a limited amount of love to go around in the universe, and there isn’t a limited amount of specialness to go around either. Someone else’s joy and beauty diminishes none of your own. If anything, it makes your own life more beautiful by making the world a better place to be in.
AJ is right, we put too much emphasis on things outside of ourselves to make us feel special. What happens if our sports team has a bad year? Or if we are from a small town no one has ever heard of? Does that mean we aren’t special? Find the thing inside of you that makes you special and let that shine for all to see.
People can be special in individual ways such as being very compassionate, or friendly, or smart, or inventive, etc. Since no one person is all those things, these individual attributes could make a person special. It’s just how we choose to view each other.
