Jon may be a dimwit most of the time Garfield, but at least you should appreciate him being always nice to you despite your mistreatment. Not every human is that patient.
Cat’s do love and care about their Family members, you just have to understand Cat’s and their many ways of showing it ! ( I use Family because I don’t like the term " Owner " as you can not Own another living being or creature, only share your Life with them. Just like the Earth doesn’t Belong to Mankind, Mankind Belongs to the Earth ! )

Jon cats can feel compassion that’s why Jon’s not dead yet. Snakes however can’t thus if Jon got a snake he’d be dead.
