Larry had kind of a big nose. People made fun of it. Sometimes they avoided him because of it. And romance seemed impossible. One day he met a respected nose scientist. But Larry couldn't recall a time when he didn't have it. He had grown up with it. It wasn't an easy decision, but... It was still a big sour pickle, but after he decided to keep it, didn't mind it as much. I mean, it wasn't like it suddenly looked good or anything. Or maybe it did.

Reminds me of “Arthur’s Nose,” by Marc Brown. Arthur decided not to have an operation to shorten his nose. Brown did change Arthur’s looks for later books, though.
