I have the same problem. Love closed captioning if the words on the screen match the audio, but can’t read something different than what I’m listening to at the same time. However, the things that run along at the bottom of the screen are okay in a public location, when they have the sound turned off (or it is too noisy to hear). Although, I’d just prefer the closed captioning all of the time. I have great hearing, but my husband doesn’t, so seeing the closed captioning is our default.

They must have turned off ‘closed captioning’ for Law and Order.
I often have to use the captioning feature for programs that originate in other countries because of the accents.
