I have just canceled my subscription to the LA Times - in protest over their maniacal and grotesquely dishonest coverage and editorialization of the Arizona issue.
I used to read the rag only to learn what the enemy is up to, but they no longer matter.
Meh. Every President has its media lap dogs. If this comic were posted a couple of years ago it’d be a bunch of Fox News guys. That will never change. Recognize it and examine multiple sources for a story.
The protests of the right against the press/media are patently absurd, but they’ll never let it go. Even the TRULY “liberal” media have been more critical of Obama than Bush- the ‘toon is plain silly.
Here is what happened to the meda (particularly the print media) over the last 15 years:
The GOP and Conservatives didn’t like how the media was able to bring down Nixon by printing the truth (My God Who Wants To Let Them Print The Truth), so they started a campaign against the “Liberal Media”, shout it loud and long, until someone in the GOP simply asked “Instead of complaining about the media why don’t we just buy it?”
Which they did, if you check you will find that most newspapers and local TV stations are owned by large corporations. It’s been years since the media could be called the “lliberal”, it is at best Central, but the GOP still likes to scream about the ” Liberal Media” because it is eaiser then explaining their mistakes.
Ken If you really want to have an intelligent discussion don’t just make up facts that fit your hypothesis. Seriously, if you are a true philosophical socialist then the media is “moderate”. if you are a liberal/progressive the media is in your back pocket. They themselves say so. The most influential paper in the US freely admits they are liberal.
The LA time is very liberal but they are owned by a big corporation. There is no correlation. Ditto WaPo.
Jade If I were to tell you the entire US is very transsexual friendly, you would correctly say, what? My answer is one state allows it. You could then say but 49 don’t. That is what you are doing- one state Fox is conservative the other 49- NYT, WaPo, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC etc etc are liberal.
