Domestic cats should all be indoor cats, not outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats. Not only would the wildlife appreciate it, but your cat will live longer for there are plenty of dangers outside for cats. Where I live beside getting hit by a car, there are also bobcats, gators, birds of prey, snakes, coyotes and more.

We have an old tom that lives in the barn. Every spring the family bets on how many birds we will get. Most was 12 in one season.

Domestic cats will hunt birds and small mammals even when not hungry. My neighbor keeps small bells on all her cats.
