In 1999 students went on a search for the fabled Paige Witch. They were never heard from again. This video tape is all that remains. Peter: Trust me. She'll destroy it, too. Jason: We have a strategy Marcus: We're recording on the tape with her eighth-grade graduation.

Nabuquduriuzhur yes schools do called promotion to HS. I think now a day’s 8th grade is start of HS.

I think 8th grade graduation ceremonies are a hold over from when going to high school was optional. Also, I believe a lot of the one room school houses were only 1st through 8th grade. My mom & her siblings had to live somewhere other than with their parents in order to go to high school, since there wasn’t one in walking distance. My family moved at the beginning of my 8th grade from a district that did NOT have 8th grade graduations, to a district that still did. I thought it was weird! My hubby didn’t want to go to his college graduation, and our sons didn’t want a high school graduation ceremony or party. (We homeschooled them.) What’s important is the education, not the pomp & circumstance.

TrapperJohn: Do you REALLY think that the reason your niece dropped out of school was too many earlier graduation ceremonies?? Doesn’t sound right…

I’ve seen pictures in the paper of kindergarten graduations – complete with caps, gowns and valedictorian!

Why is everyone commenting on 8th Grade graduations and not on the actual strip? However, when in Rome… Most Catholic/private schools are K-8, so having an 8th Grade graduation makes sense. This was probably more often the case in 2000, when Bill wrote this strip.
