I had a boss who not only asked “in front of everyone”, he sent a company-wide email and demanded participation. I probably wouldn’t have minded as much if the “charity” hadn’t been support for his son.
If the boss says you “. . . only have to chip in . . . ,” instead of “. . . only if you want to,” file an HR complaint.
