I know. What with butchering hogs out in the yard, watching all the farm animals breed and going down to the saloon for growlers of beer for Pop, it’s a wonder kids grew up at all. Must have been better water back then.
I’m 60-ish.(soon, very soon, marking the hours) I remember when Brenda Starr was naked in the shower. I also remember Kerry Drake’s brother, Lefty Drake, shown with a buxom young woman at a body painting party, and the dialog was straight out of 1960s pr0n. And those girls in Li’l Abner. Now that I think of it there was what now be a highly inappropriate bit about Li’l Abner underneath a desk. And Little Annie Fanny…wait, she may not have been in regular newspapers. What about S Clay Wilson, was he in regular newspapers?
I wonder what is wrong with all the child psychologists that said all these things were bad—playing ‘cowboys and indians’, ‘war’, watching Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, Wiley Coyote get shot, blown up, have rocks fall on them, etc ? Me and a whole lot of people I know of my generation grew up on such ‘violence’ and we turned out, I believe OK and not the homicidal, violence ridden populace(except for some exceptions)that they said we would turn out to be ! OK, OK, I’ll climb down off my ‘soap box’
Comics are less of a problem than the garbage on TV. They put anything on during times when children watch. And the games on their phones, i-pods, and computers are worse.
I clearly remember when I met DH’s family for the first time and found I had landed in Dogpatch, USA. My new MIL was a dead ringer for Mammy Yokum. I never knew Lil’ Abner was set in N Florida.

I miss the days when comics were comics…and Dick Tracy was the most violent strip in the “funnies”.
