Frazz by Jef Mallett for December 12, 2015
Transcript:
Boy: They shouldn't be able to play "sleigh ride" in the Christmas concert during el nino years, is all I'm saying. Frazz: Irony too frustrating? Boy: No. Just any excuse for a break from that song every year. Frazz: Oh, right. You've got a string of older siblings in band.

Ahhhh, you’re all wet. Just put some roller blades on the sled and sleigh away jingling your bells!

Kid needs an education. Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride is one of the greatest winter pieces ever written, especially in the Arthur Fiedler version with the Hot Jazz variation and the trumpet horse whinny at the end.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9jKyI6N9rg

Sigh… intellectually, I know this warm (so far) winter is a sign of some very bad things happening on a planetary scale, but… mid-50s in the northern Midwest in December just feels so good…

“Sleigh Ride” and “Winter Wonderland” are great Winter songs, but I never understood why they are considered “Christmas” songs. Neither say anything about any holiday at all.

They certainly wouldn’t work as such in Australia.

That was always my favorite Christmas concert chart in the concert band. Great tuba part.
