As much as the President likes to say Peace Peace with his mouth while signing off on kill orders with his hands I don’t see him actually doing much here. Didn’t he just say ISIS was contained a few hours before the attack?
Aren’t conservatives wonderful people? A horrible terrorist attack hits France, and not one word of sympathy for the victims. Instead all they can think about is, “Oh, Boy! We can REALLY bash Obama with this ’un, YEEEEEEE-HAW!”Y’know, I expected to find a few comments to that effect today, but not from practically EVERY rightie posting to this thread. Shame on all of you.
Quite a read, Beau: thanks for taking the time to post it. And it underlies my belief that our government departments (like those in many companies) do not exchange information enough, and many bureaucrats & pols do not know the history, much less understand it, of the peoples involved. We are, quite simply, piss-poor world leaders, thinking we can easily shape the world into our image.Again, thanks for your intelligent in-puts!
The real problem is that we jumped in in 2002 and 2003 and attacked the people who were NOT THE ONES WHO ATTACKED US! We should have probably bombed Riyadh first, then the camps in northern Afghanistan to get that Saudi, bin Laden, and then pulled out of the region without changing any governments.
Much as we try to deny it in some circles, our actions in IRaq were DIRECTLY responsible for the creation of ISIL, and it’s little band of sociopaths and psychopaths. (Their versions of Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, et al.)
Of course, pointing out that Isis exists because Saddam and Khaddaffi were ousted, leaving a power vacuum – will not be mentioned. Of course, pointing out that the financial/religous backers of Isis are Saudi Arabia won’t matter. Of course, pointing out that the mistreatment of Muslim citizens for 50 years and the refusal to see them as anything except second class citizens has not really been the reason home-grown Muslims in Europe decide to join isis It’s all the other’s fault. Meanwhile, no-one seems to have noticed that 41 people were killed in Beirut and 19 in Bagdad last week by Isis too. Oh, right! THEY are Muslims, so nobody cares… which of course is part of the problem anyway, isn’t it?Hypocrites.
Bruce: about minorities; “evangelicals” and hard right “Christians” are less than 24% of the population, but demand total control, and well, more wars on Islam.
As to minorities, ability to control radicals acting independently, and terrorism; Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols come to mind.

i guess we can’t blame ISIS, somebody (with all the input from the NSA and the CIA)just a day or so ago, said they were “contained.”

Conservatards see a nation’s tragedy as a great excuse to pile on their least favorite president. Pathetic.

Correct assessment of the cartoon, Michael.
Sometimes reactionary right-wingers miss the nuances involved. :)

You’re right, OC. You’re an old sexist.

Right behind you, Steve. Let me know what unit they put in and I’ll ask to be assigned there, too.
