My bank must have taken note of that. Most most recent Visa and MasterCard are simply a plain bordering-on-mental-hospital green, save for the “unfalsifiable” holograms and the golden chip.

Y’know, the kid has a point. Maybe people are more inclined to use the card if it looks “flashy”.

Debit cards are not credit cards. They use your money from your bank account. Almost everyone here in Canada has one.

There’s a thing on Twitter now that these teens post selfies with their new cards. It’s the stupidest thing. There’s even an account someone set up that catches these tweets and alerts the teens to remove the photo since showing your card’s number and the name on it is like handing your cash to complete strangers.

I don’t know how the current crop of young people are so devoid of any sense of self-protection or possible consequences. There was a report on yesterday about a 20-something who got himself buried under 7 feet of sand at the beach. How? This bright light was amusing himself by digging first a hole and then a tunnel. A TUNNEL. In the soft beach sand. He got a few yards away from the hole (which itself was quickly filling in) before the tunnel of soft sand collapsed on him. Dry sand weighs 97 to 117 pounds per cubic foot; wet sand, 120 to 140 pounds. I just don’t get it….

These days we have to teach our kids to keep things private since they are growing up in a time where everything is shared. My nephew posted a picture of his 1st paycheck on Facebook – address and all, my own son almost did the same with his new license but I was there to stop him. Ridiculous!

Dani Rice, I can’t believe that! How ridiculous. On the other hand, flashing a card is better than waving around handfuls of cash. Once when my sister was little, she was with my mum at an ATM. My mum withdrew some cash, and my sister exclaimed with a toddler’s typical lack of volume control: ‘WOW, Mum! LOOK at all your MONEY!’ One-stop mugger’s alert!
