When you were Gracie’s age, TVs weren’t as available as iPads are.

We had the first TV on our block. Then we moved to the high Sierras where there was no reception, and didn’t get one again for several years.I haven’t had one for a long time now, and it’s amazing how much time I have for things I’d rather be doing! I do kind of miss Star Trek every now and then, though.

Gracie, you should know that the cost for iPad is very expensive. Papi can’t afford for you to have with your childhood. Sorry, alas! :-/

“Gracie, I think it’s time you got your dream computer. I’ve cleared a nice spot on the table where you can build it.”

    Gracie would find a way…

Responsibility for oneself seems to be completly gone.

It seems to be encouraged by those who believe giving is the answer!

The time of reality will come but those believing in having and not earning will always blame others!

You’re absolutely right, grampaspot. Gracie’s, what, eight years old? Plenty old enough to work a full-time job in the mills, like in the good old days. Those little hands of hers can reach into the machinery so much more easily than a grown-up’s.

Wow, Joe-Allen: I was the youngest by 7 years when we got out first tv. I was 9. It was a 14 inch used black and white. Boy were you lucky! I do remember, however, getting up on Saturday mornings VERY early and watching The Modern Farmer and Victory at Sea. The only things that were on then. It was fascinating!

When I was a teenager and television first came out people used to stand in front of department store windows and just watch test patterns for awhile on the the tv sets.

    Anyone remember test patterns?

    (Does anybody remember department stores?)
