Have you noticed that almost no one under 35 knows what steampunk is?

Monty is so Emo.

Monty is a loser in matters of the heart. He will fail here, again. He is not a death rocker, nor Goth, nor a steampunker. I bet he’s never even heard an Abney Park recording….

AND he only has three fingers!. I think that started with Disney’s Mickey Mouse. Why are cartoon characters missing that digit? Does it save ink? .Weigh in on this, the world wants to know…

It is humbling to admit that I didn’t know what steam punk was either until I saw a booth at the “Dickens on the Strand” festival in Galveston a few years ago. Since then I’ve read a few books and there was recently an interesting 5 episode reality show about a competition between steam punk designers. Still, it just doesn’t seem to get much traction with me. And this is coming from someone who wears costumes to the Renaissance festivals.

@SukieCrandallI was just at a Steampunk themed convention last weekend, I think that I was the oldest person there. My 14YO just outfitted a bit more of her steampunk outfit (The stovepipe on the stovepipe hat is really amusing) and she was still the one most likely to walk down a street without getting amused stares.

But I’m with @NeedaChuckle I prefer real science in my fiction.

After watching the movie Wild Wild West with Will SmithI had to look up what Steampunk meant..Still don’t know..the explanation doesn’t make sense to my sense of well…my sensibility….

if cartoon characters had 4 fingers they would look too thin, or the hand too big. 3 fingers can do just about anything a cartoonist wants to get his/her point across
