The “NRA type” points out that CCP folks rarely get in shootouts, overlooking the gal with a CCP who recenlty fired on a moving vehicle containing misdemeanor shoplifting suspects. It IS true that CCP folks LICENSED to carry, and who take care of their firearms to avoid losing those licenses, are basically safer and less criminal or crazy, sooo, let’s start by making CCP requirements mandatory for ALL firearms possession. Yep, their own excuse, er rationale for being “safer” gun owners does bite ‘em when it comes to that "let’s regulate" issue.

So, dtroutma, you point out one instance where a concealed carry permit holder made a mistake in judgment and want to pretend that applies to all? And you wonder why people don’t take you seriously! .Once again we see a liberal out to harm the poor. Not everyone can afford all the costs associated with getting a CCP. All in it is around 300 where I live, and that license is only good for 5 years. .Oh, and your whole argument is asinine to begin with. It isn’t the fact CCP holders have to go through licensing and training that makes them safer. Now, I know this will be hard for you to understand since you hate gun owners, but by and large the VAST majority of them are law abiding citizens where their guns are never used illegally. That’s right. Despite your demonization of gun owners, the vast majority of them are decent people. The criminal element, however, IS responsible for the vast majority of gun violence in this country and laugh at your silly ideas even more than I do. Think criminals who are already prohibited from owning weapons will show up to jump through your hoops? I don’t think so..Thanks for the laughs!

^CCP here for four years $65 fee. Average cost of a good handgun, especially semi-auto- around $650.

BTW, the Colt Model 1911 was long the military standard, and a semi-auto. Sig Sauer and Sig Mauser are also SEMI-auto. Auto is okay for suppression in mass attacks, but not very accurate. Which, Columbine; 2 shooters, Roseburg, Santa Barbara, Aurora, Tampa,Charleston, and at the grade school, single shooters, also the Holocaust Museum, so if you are TRAINED and EXPERIENCED, those extended clips aren’t necessary. Now the Cops, as in the Bank of America robbery where those guys had FULLY AUTOMATIC weapons and body armor, the cops DID need adequate weapons for response.

Reading the “Armed Citizen” columns in NRA publications is repleat with stories more like the gal shooting at the shoplifter, than viable, intelligent, and necessary, use of firearms. Most are like reading the very epitome of “probable collateral damage”, as it seems the majority that shoot, miss.

I have NEVER “demonized” trained and legitimate gun owners acting responsiblity, idiots and nut cases, different story. Which, yes, “criminals” are responsible for most shootings, and those with diagnosed mental illness are less than 5% of shooters.

Just had a gang-banger over in Medford the other night, Portland, two days after Roseburg had three killed and three critically wounded in an apparent “gang related” shooting, and that’s just two days in Oregon. Also interesting that Roseburg is the heart of west side conservative culture, and Portland is always called “uber-liberal” by the conservatives. Grants Pass, really right wing, also gets quite a few shootings.

IDIOTS shouldn’t have guns, which is where licensing all gun owners, as New Zealand does, and as CCP programs accomplish, makes gun ownerhsip a lot safer, for the owner, and, usually, innocent bystanders. It’s not just aim, but ethics. (BTW; in military qualifed expert on all small arms of the day, and also every six months in qualifying for carry in law enforcement.)
