The problem is the prescription drug business is only regulated to insure the drugs are safe. There is absolutely no regulation of prices. The patent system and the many years it takes to get a generic drug approved is a big barrier to entry the pharmaceutical industry uses to keep competition out. Drugs sold in America are much more expensive than the same drug sold outside the country even though it is probably produced in the same facility.Another great example of “free enterprise”.
Have you noticed something folks? []Every time a cartoon shows up about price-gouging by big pharma, the ONLY response we get from our resident righties is to try to change the subject to Obamacare. They never, never, never address the actual subject of the pharmaceutical companies sticking it to the American consumer.[]Why is that?
I was at a Gamer convention last year (nah, I’m not a gamer but my mates dragged me along) and some new sim game was being touted: ‘Big Pharma’. I thought it was a little boring and told them so.
Does anybody remember this about Med Part D?It was reputed to cost $400B; the guy who calculated the correct price of $700B was told he’d be fired if he told the truth. The vote was held open for three hours too long to get one last vote. (When the Democrats held a vote open ten minutes too long, cheney said he never seen such a travesty of justice.) And Boner was on video handing out Pharma checks to republicans on the floor of the House.Great honest bunch…

Good thing we have the “affordable care act” so this kind of thing does not exist.

That’s rich, considering he was responding to the same thing coming from the other side—which you had no objections to.
