I’m guessing the letter sat in someones attic for most of that time.

    That matchstick train has wings.

Alice Otterloop of “Cul de Sac” would not believe that factoid about her favorite animal the pangolin. As for that piece of mail, why did it take almost three centuries to be delivered?

Back in the early 70’s I read in the New Haven, CT paper that mail from the 50’s (if I remember correctly) was being delivered in the local area. Seems there was a mail robbery and the crooks dumped the items they didn’t want in the harbor. Someone dredged them up and the USPS dried them out, stuck them in glassine bags with a note of apology for the delay in delivery and delivered them. With the German example I guess I’m more surprised that the address still existed (though the item does not make it clear if it was address or recipient that was correct).

Shouldn’t that be a snail instead of a turtle?

When I worked at the post office, sometimes when I picked up a supposedly empty bag, I would find months delayed mail in them, to and from completely different parts of the country from where I worked.

I had a friend who found an undelivered letter under a fold in his old mailbag years after he changed jobs. He wasn’t so conscientious, he threw it in the trash.
