But, if it is not true, then is it really worthwhile? Of course, I had an original vw bug back in the 1960’s, and it got a true 30 mph back then. Even though I did not even have it tunned up for some 96,000 miles! Only the fact that my family got too large, made me move to a larger car!!
It is true, Robert. The problem is that they fudged the emissions tests. Nothing wrong with the cars at all, they just aren’t as clean as VW had claimed.
A large part of the problem is that we do not have representatives who understand technology well enough to know that the software for the engine control unit should be open source not treated like movies and music with DMCA protection hiding it’s actual function. We get the government we deserve.
It did give better mileage and more power. It just polluted a lot more. I am really interested in finding out how this happened. It will be many months before all the details come out but it is disturbing that a large corporation would make a decision that clearly would be very damaging when disclosed. It also would have been possible for it not to be discovered eventually with so many car people scrutinizing every car.
It is also true that VW broke the law (in several countries) when they deliberately designed and installed systems to get around emissions laws. They also lied to their customers, and many of the customers are really angry about it. For many, illegal emissions are a big (bad) deal.

VW lied to sell more cars. That stated, the limits are BS and limit production to crap cars.
