Hindsight is not dependable. In my opinion (and I voted for him, or rather, against Carter) Reagan was elected because he kept running for the nomination without being picked, until the Republicans encountered a weak Democrat in Carter. Then they said, “Go at it, Ron.” (heh, heh) But with his easy quips and folksy style, and having played heroic and patriotic characters in the movies, he fit the stereotype wanted for the times..I remember his performance in office as an irritating actor president making knee-jerk reactions to events, in Hollywood cliche style. He drove me nuts with that “Stay the Course” mantra, and the patented Reagan accompanying bobble-head mannerism. .That’s my memory of him, and of course others may certainly differ. If they want to remember him as a Republican saint, well (another Reagan speech mannerism) I guess there have been Christian saints recognized for reasons just as bogus.
One more time, righties..Would you call a Republican a RINO if he….1. Allowed taxes to be raised several times?2. Offered amnesty to illegal immigrants.3. Nearly tripled the national debt?4. Increased the Federal work force by more than 300,000?5. Sold missile parts to Iran?6. Responded to a terrorist attack on our troops by pulling the US OUT of the danger zone?7. As governor, signed a bill legalizing abortion in his state?
Take another step back, Breen. You’ll see Reagan’s boots, way down deep inside Eisenhower’s, And his down inside Lincoln’s. Reagan wasn’t a great president, or even a good man. He just looks big compared to the worms the Republicans are offering us today.
Reagan, with all of his many faults and crimes, was willing to work with other politicians in a reality-based world to run a government. There is not a single Republican candidate who can fill his shoes, because they’ve all ruled out the very idea of governing the country.
Will any of them live up to the high point of Reagan’s administration? I mean the Iran-Contra deal, which almost got him impeached, except that his memory wasn’t so good and Poindexter was willing to take the fall.

No, you’re all like Saint Ronnie; you all think and act like Alzheimer’s patients.

They’re just all the nails holding those heels on the boots of a myth, and painful.
