I had a dog that was 1/2 black lab and 1/2 boarder collie. She was lab on the outside and border collie on the inside.
First we had to break her of the habit of herding the cat (yes herding a single cat can be done). Then we had to keep her from trying to herd the grandkids.
One of our two border collies would make a great guard… the other would let the inmates wander as far from the “prison” as they wanted, so long as they were tossing a ball and playing fetch as they strayed…
