On the other OTHER hand, I hate those horns which seem to find their way to every professional soccer game. Fans can find much more interesting ways to be annoying.
I hope not, Potr. Those vuvuzelas are REALLY annoying. And one is bad enough – get 20,000 people blowing those stupid things and it sounds like a swarm of bees is attacking.
‘Vulgar’ idioms, used judiciously, are in no way an indication of lack of education, imagination, or maturity. As with all figurative speech (metaphor, hyperbole, etc.), they convey a certain level of emotion that cannot be passed (so to speak) through purely descriptive language.
However, to be overly fastidious in the avoidance of discussion of perfectly natural biological functions, and an abhorrance of the common (in both senses of the word) terms for same, could likely be the result of unnecessarily punitive methods of toilet training in childhood. Particularly when seen in conjunction with nit-picking judgmentalism towards others, black-and-white thinking, and a literal-mindedness bordering on blindness (not to mention incessant recommendation of spanking as pedagogy), this overemphasis-by-strict-avoidance of eliminatory functions offers a textbook example of anal retentiveness, perhaps to the point of fixation.
Tangential note: The upcoming England-USA World Cup match will have a Brazillian officiating team, and they (the ref and his crew) are studying up on English-language obscenities that the players might hurl at one another on the field. I’m sure that the language will be much harsher than “Piss off!” :-)
PS: If England defeats the US, both teams (and their supporters) will likely be “pissed” by evening’s end, according to their respective idioms.
Oh my dear! Papi is really fuming at Baldo for using a silly plastic horn with terrible sound. LOLs! X-D
One time I went with deaf family as I am their family friend. I knew them very well. Anyway, we went to watch the parade in the downtown in Reno long time ago. The son complained about the terrible sound when the stranger blew with the plastic horn few times. Deaf mother told the stranger to stop blowing the horn. But the stranger ignored her and kept blowing the horn. She got steamed up and kept telling him to STOP. He hit her lightly and then, she hit him back. I yelled at the stranger not to hit a woman. Deaf mother took the horn from him and threw it in the trash. And then, we moved a little bit away from that stupid stranger with his silly horn. Now those plastic horn the people play with comes back again. Oh NO! Not again! lols!
fritzoid: Mr. Obvious is also Mr. Oblivious - if he wasn’t, you would now be on his list of “Hateful People” ( a very long and crowded list, I believe).
But to Mr. Obvious and Mr. Oblivious you can add Mr. Obdurate. He’ll never admit that he’s in the wrong, and if a criticism is both on-point and unanswerable he’ll simply ignore it.
