Eight years of “Cheney’s energy program” had most inspectors in cubicles, instead of out on the rigs doing their jobs. Political appointees and “yes” folks had worked their way into just about every decision position- a lot of good people who WANTED to do their jobs, weren’t allowed to.
And Baslim has a very, very, good point. BP, MMS, Lockheed-Martin, Boeing, EADS, GM, Chrysler, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, and governments reached the size that the “Peter Principle” was filling WAY too many slots.

Quite correct on that score. Even I was surprised at how fast their change in government was, bearing in mind the initial haggling since a coalition had to be formed first. By European standards, setting up the coalition in itself was super zippy! The actual change in government had me with my jaw on the floor.
The Civil Service remains apolitical or impartial so no changes there at all (although likely to be affected by austerity cuts but that’s another story).

I just noted the BP calendar (on July, strangely) and the “BP Party cancelled” notice. Gotta watch this boy like a hawk! His details are awesome.
