Folks don’t realize that once a lease is issued, the oil companies have, and demand, A RIGHT!! Not just a privilege. That is the same in mining. In livestock grazing, ranchers CLAIM a right, but nothing in law grants more than a grazing privilege.
Cartoonists as well as publics need to understand a little land law. But considering most can’t understand even a simply worded amendment to the Constitution, what hope is there??

Spice, thanks. After spending roughly 30 years reviewing these types of issues, as an adjudicator and environmental coordinator, and sharing an office with a BLM geologist for 22 years who did these inspection jobs, on oil, gas, and geothermal, I keep thinking a few real facts might breath fresh air into the discussion, but …
