Jim, come on, it was the Repugnicans who aggressively deregulated the oil industry. Once again, Obama is stuck with cleaning up someone else’s mess.

This is an example of reality trumping everyone’s political inclinations. Not sure the oil spill is the fault of regulation, deregulation, the government, private enterprise, etc….occasional accidents are the course in the world, unintended consequences, etc. Even if we banned off-shore drilling entirely, the world would not be a mistake-free Utopia, and I hope we all realize that!

Come on now, don’t be blaming the regulators. They just do what they are paid to do, just like our politicians.

@HabaneroBuck: 1) This was not so much an accident as a conspiracy of stupid; B) A mistake is an unintentional misstep – BP insisted on cutting corners in order to maximize their profits; and 3) BP had MMS in its pocket, which allowed them to take the shortcuts that led to this disaster.

    This was no accident.

We will stop offshore drilling and everyone else will do it we can just pay more just like always when Washington gets involved.

I am not exactly sure that is one of the Rules of Acquisition. The Ferengi tend to like government when it helps or protects their assets or transactions, and abhor it when it gets in the way of profits.
