I’ve never heard of this. There’s only a need for 2 swimsuits (one to wear and one to have as a backup) and a coverup. This seems like a lame ploy to sell more swimsuits.

Television and magazines are always trying to convince you buy things that you never realised that you needed. All hail the conquering commercialism.

HappyChappy - Agreed! It is amazing how much money I don’t spend on non-necessities now that I don’t watch TV or read many magazines. I was always frugal, but getting more so as I age and realize that possessions don’t make one happy - they just add clutter.

It’s a joke about Cathy’s ongoing weight concerns as she approaches middle age. When you get past that, these things don’t matter so much.

The hour-by-hour monitoring of one’s weight, with the corresponding hourly excuses for the micro-fluctuations, has been quite a trend these days. It brings its own new little shelters from the stormy blast of permanent worry, while it brings its own new overwhelming whirlwind of daily panic.

At least it’s a relief from the old way, which was: If you weigh too much, do your best to lose some.

I think I’d rather be with women who live the old way. At least it’s one part of life in which they can relate to men.

If she eats all that, she’ll need a tent – skip the suit. And – who can afford more than one b-suit at today’s prices anyway?
