It’s quite ironic, really. Sarah Palin popularized the whole “How’s that hope and change working for you” taunt, yet her own message is as much about change (retaking Washington, representing those not represented, etc) as Obama’s was. As for hope, well, she’s hoping she can win ;) .
It’s great to say that people receive rights just by being people, but how are those rights protected? By your argument, during slavery times, the slaves had all the rights anyone else had, just by being people, but they were unable to exercise those rights because the government did not protect them.
Would your sense of “back to our roots” would also include renewal of slavery? I think not. The call to go “back to our roots” is too simplistic.
Going back is the antithesis of evolution. But then, that’s the crux of the issue. The idea of creationism implies a primordial golden age that can never be recaptured without an apocalypse and a new creation. Evolution implies a somewhat linear progress from a baser state to an ever more enlightened one.
I think we had slavery because the tribal kings in Africa wanted to make a few bucks by selling the riff-raff of the land to the white man. Can’t knock a brother for entrepreneurship, can we?
Anyway, seriously, what bradwilliams said. At least give Palin credit for looking good. This is a drawing of Janet Reno after an all-night tequila-themed bender.
Ken Warren: I think it might be the reverse, that stupid people get angry more quickly. Remember what Michael Moore said, “Not all conservatives are stupid, but most stupid people are conservative.”
sirromsirrom: I thought she looked like a harpy the first time I saw her. Then, I heard her voice.
Lavocat : I think you nailed it. If we change to Palin, then all hope is gone.
Nowhere is the government forcing women to get abortions and never has one citizen been deprived of any right to life by getting an abortion. In fact it has been anti-abortion zealots who want the government to get involved by forcing women to gestate and give birth, making them slaves to the needs of fetuses.
The only war against freedom of religion has been waged by fanatics who would force everyone to accept their cult AND force taxpayers to pay for it.
And the notion that government assitance for the needy is causing indifference to the needy is just bizarre doublethink.

In recent American history, it has been “conservative” presidents Reagan and Bush the Lesser who have made the radical changes.
“In recent American history, it has been “conservative” presidents Reagan and Bush the Lesser who have made the radical changes.”
I suppose that’s true if you consider going back to 19th century principles as being change.
Yeah, SuperGriz…To hear Rand Paul sputter and blab about how private business owners should have the right to deny access to their place of business because of skin color makes me cringe.
Talk about growth pains! America must be in her adolescent stage..whacked out and unpredictable, with brain cells still dividing.
What–Do you think a Jewish owner/proprietor of any business should be allowed to deny access to a Nazi, or Aryan, or KKK member? Please tell me you do not. I don’t.
By way of comment, you may think about changing “frequent” concerning Rand Pauls’ visits to your above mentioned racist businesses. While I understand what you meant to say, what you said is Paul would, in fact, give those places his business.
our constitution sez that for census purposes, slaves count as 1/2 person, Native Americans as 5/8 persons (I think). And that’s still part of the U.S. constitution.

Radish, I was just wondering – is Sarah Palin the change Ted is looking for? If not, I’m afraid his cartoon is too unclear. And what a scary thought!

I’ve never seen dear Sarah’s hair so unkempt!

The simplest cartoons are always the best.
Sarah Plain and Talky represents change without hope.
To say that hope has been completely ripped away, however, is a stretch.

Thanks for the explanation sirrom. For a second there I thought he was saying America was teabagging.

Hey, there’s always 17th-century-values apostle Rand Paul. The slave trade was private enterprise at its best, don’t you think?

“media brings up Sarah and the libs forget everything else.”
Poor Sarah… she’s doing so much to avoid the limelight and everyone’s just forcing it back on her.sirrom567 almost 14 years ago
No, the Tea Party’s idea of change is to sweep the chess pieces off the table instead of figuring out how to win the game.

Thats the worst drawing of Sarah I have ever seen. Give her, her looks. It is all she has.
sirrom567 almost 14 years ago
She looks more and more like a harpy every time I see her. And realistic drawing has never been Ted’s forte.

You got to it before I did, lonecat, when I saw this statement I asked the same question… “if that’s true, then why did we have slavery?”lonecat almost 14 years ago
^ And votes for women, too. That was clearly a mistake. Let’s go back to the old days, when women knew their place.
