I have a different way of looking it. The last minute before school vacation started, or Christmas vacation, or vacation from work was just before the beginning of it and thus the maximum length of time before I had to return.
It took me a long time to get used to standard time. I was used to the New York Minute which is 60 New York seconds which is officially defined as the time elapsed between the light turning green and the cab behind you blowing his horn. It is the shortest measurable time known to man.
