Good one, Papi. I’m sure Gracie will never ask if she can be a failure.

I remember one woman had the same idea and always told her son he could do anything. It didn’t go over too well when my mom asked this lady what happens if the kid says he wants to be a mother, or a Wiccan (strict Catholic family), or a Harlem Globetrotter (the whole family is short, dumpy, and has the athletic abilities of a crate of eggs).

i think you learn best from your own failures, unca joe.

btw the rise and fall of reginald perrin was a great british sitcom (and series of novels on which the series was based.)

reggie did not fail at committing suicide nor did he purposely try to fail in life. he suffered perhaps the most severe mid-life crisis known to man, even getting to the point of faking his own suicide.

Such a nice comic trying to encourage positive action in ones life. Love it.

Last comment from dad is also demonstrative of real life.

What you are, is what you are. It is not what others are.

I don’t know if we’ve ever had a President who was an M.D., but there’s always the first time; we’ve had presidential candidates with backgrounds in medicine or education. Or if she gets her M.D. and winds up at a Medical School or a Teachers Hospital, she can knock out two. Being a great parent isn’t incompatible with any of the others, of course, alone or in any combination.

There was a “Partridge Family” episode in which Keith figured he was the Man of the House, and tried to dispense Ward Cleaver-type advice to his siblings. When Chris and Tracy came to him asking whether it was true that they could be anything they wanted to be, he gave them the traditional, encouraging, “hard work and determination” pep-talk, and when he finished he asked just what it was that they wanted to be. “We want to be Negroes.”

ejcapulet said, I remember one woman had the same idea and always told her son he could do anything. None of those are impossible, even if he wants to be a mother. Just very, very improbable. But he can do any of those if he has the drive.

unca joe, you shouldn’t tell people what gets under your skin. You make it too easy for them.

I hope this is a learning experience for you.
