When I went to see a “futbol” game in Mexico, there was an actual moat between the stands and the field.

Unless we get to the “Warfare” that is seen in some foreign countries the primary harm to rushing the court is scuffed courts that are totally repairable. Safe exit by players & coaches are the primary concern and are currently addressed. It seems that TV’s requirement for the best backdrop for the court side “reporter” is the driving concern here.

Well, their plan appears to be a dead cert.

I think there is a genuine safety concern for keeping students from storming the court, especially for the opposition trying to get off the court.

Basketball is the only game I’ve seen (from the TV) where people WANT to sit on the court, in folding chairs. Why?

I don’t know about those 4 tiers – but maybe put the fans behind the glass – like in hockey?

or would the NBA not like the lost of revenue from what I think of as the “cheap seats, on the floor”.

Hunter7: Why? To be seen, of course. No different from boxes at the opera, lousy seats which miss the near-side action while seeing backstage on the opposite wing.

“OFFS”? Um, Mr. Hinds? You do know what that actually stands for, yes?
