Neither 3 or 4 stomachs, 1 stomach, 4 compartments. See the following for details if you like, or do what I do and skip all comments over 5 lines in length.

4 stomachs is a commonly stated misconception, they have 1 with 4 compartments – rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum, with the rumen being the largest compartment. The reticulum is the smallest compartment. The omasum’s main function is to absorb water and nutrients from the digestible food. The abomasum is like the human stomach, this is why it is known as the ‘true stomach’. Cud is continually regurgitated, rechewed and further digested by specialised microbes in the rumen. These processes of cud chewing and continuous digestive processes are what allow cattle and other ruminants the ability to consume grasses, plants and vegetation that contain cellulose and other difficult to digest chemical compounds.

I once had goats and an electric fence. The problem was the same section of fence was being torn down on a daily basis. I couldn’t figure out why until I watch the oldest goat deliberately push his son into the fence when they were fighting over who would be the lead goat in the herd.

You’re a better man than I. It does have its drawbacks though. For instance, I can’t remember the last time I read a comment from S. S.
