    Going off on a tangent here – if you haven’t already, read Ian Fleming’s short story “Octopussy”, a great depiction of the corrupting nature of gold fever (and the movie has pretty much nothing to do with it.)

    Based on the chest’s size relative to Rip’s hands in panel 5, I’d estimate that it’s got a volume of about 1/4 ft^3. It’s hard to tell how densely packed it is, but if we guess that at least half of that volume is gold, then it would weigh about 150 pounds.

    Rip can handle that weight no problem — after all, we’ve seen him toss 200+ pound minions as a lesser man might toss a baseball. But how badly would it weigh down Longbeard?
