Why does the U.S. insist a Russian speaking people not associate with Russia, while we occupy essentially two countries where OUR soldiers must use translators to speak to the population?
Angela Merkel just told Obama that she is opposed to sending weapons to Ukraine. She and Hollande are trying to work out some kind of diplomatic settlement. They clearly don’t want things to heat up in their neighborhood. John McCain is pushing for the US to send weapons, but it’s not his backyard. I don’t know if more diplomacy and more sanctions will work, but it’s worth a try, and any action that isn’t supported by the French and the Germans would be irresponsible.
BTW: that’s Biden. The point of import is what King Abdullah said regarding ISIL and Middle East Arab/Muslim nations; REGIONAL issues should be resolved by REGIONAL powers, not by the U.S. any longer. While he did say that if they REQUESTED assistance from the U.S. that would be okay, it is NOT the same as letting us rule the region.
As Europeans and the U.S. drew those Middle East boundaries, more reason to question their authenticity. With regard to Ukraine? Still not our call to decide. (btw; I don’t like Putin either, but there are lots of countries run by worse.)
