This is not a philosophical issue. It is about evil. ISIS is trying to get absolute control over other people and uses any method to try to do this. They seem simply to want to dominate and kill anyone they feel like killing. It is not about Muslims or Catholics, it is about pure evil.
Apparently, ISIS has miscalculated big-time. The video that showed Jordanian pilot Moath al-Kasasbeh being burned alive has created a significant backlash from Sunnis in the region. Al-Kasasbeh was from a prominent Sunni tribal family in Jordan, and his killing has sparked outrage.
Lol…..Look at all these Lefties on here tripping over each other to be the first to deflect any criticism away from ISIS.“It’s all relative, so we can’t judge anybody else, even ISIS”.Pathetic.Grow a pair and call a spade a spade.
Nazi’s based their antisemitic holocaust on generations of Catholic (blood libel &c.) and Lutheran On Jews and their Lies) teachings. To that they added the standard right wing hatreds of the "other"…communists, gypsies, unionists, homosexuals &c, &c.
The excesses of the communist states (Russia, China, Cambodia) were more to do with the cults of personality encouraged by the leaders. Their targets tended to be ideological opponents rather “other” races/religions.
The Armenian genocide was religious…Islam vs. Christian.
The North American genocide was inspired by greed and land hunger and excused by protestant rhetoric. Similarly for the middle and south American genocides, except those had excuses of Catholic rhetoric.
Re: Fall of the Roman Empire: it is probable the fall and subsequent centuries (from 400CE to 1000CE) of stasis can be laid squarely at the feet of authoritarian Christianity. Only after the absolute authority of the Church had been broken (with the Great Schism) did Western civilization begin to crawl out of the ruins of the Roman Empire.
The socialist aspect of the Nazi party was more or less a remnant of the original forming of the party. Once Hitler came into being, after being told to investigate the party by the Military, whom he was still part of, the Nazi’s slowly started to form into a more Nationalistic party, rather then a socialist one. The Nazis never dropped the “socialist” aspect from their name due to the fact they still wanted to keep the appearance of being for “the workers”, however this was solely a political maneuver, much like Hitlers flirtation with the bankers, and other business leaders of Germany during this time. One could easily say that Hitler played all sides against each other in order to gain what he really wanted – Total power over everything. This is what he achieved, and he did it by being the “perfect” politician. Calling him a “lefty” or a “righty” is an easy way for people to make their arguments seem valid. The said truth was he was neither. Hitlers political doctrine was what ever he needed to be at any given time. This only stopped after he Gained full power and control. History shows what happened next….
@OldCoal, “but they aren’t producing much of anything save fear and pain.” OK, put your family in their way. And they have produced thousands of deaths, you’re ignoring that. Why are you minimizing mass murder?
Mike Herman: how about the IRA still bombing innocents in London in 1992, good KKK folks still at large, or good Christian boys in Texas dragging a man behind the truch til his head pops off?
Right, how could good socialists argue and fight amongst each other. They’d get along famously, like the notoriously close relationship between the USSR and Communist China. .

Why do some commentators think that the savagery of ISIS has anything to do with liberalism vs. conservatism?
