In my entire life I have never found an English teacher who could justify the teaching of diagramming – unless you planned to be an English teacher…During my elementary school days my english grades would reflect the course; “A” during literature, grammer, & spelling, “F” during diagramming…
The problem with diagramming sentences is- it seems to be one more thing that (unintentionally of course) makes English seem boring to students. I don’t think that’s the best way to encourage people to learn. It appeals to those who like to analyze the life out things, but it’s a nuisance if you’re not that kind. You can speak and write English quite well without diagramming.

I hated diagraming sentences in English class…..a HUGE waste of time and energy. I like the way Maria does it.

Diagram: a simplified drawing showing the appearance or structure of something.…If the teacher doesn’t like it, it’s Oxford’s fault.

I can’t believe they still teach that. I learned in 7th/8th grade and my mother was convinced I was among the last to learn it.

Diagram? To draw? – I think Maria has it right.
