So if a person who works the graveyard shift (and sleeps during the day) is doing the same thing, shouldn’t it be called ’nightdreaming ’?

Caulfield already knows what Mrs. Olsen thinks she’s teaching. Just because he’s not outwardly listening doesn’t mean he’s not hearing every word. Besides, didn’t Milton say “They also serve who only sit and daydream”? Well, close.

Caulfield is there as the ideal foil to Mrs Olsen, and someone that matches Frazz wit-for-wit. I love it.

In the words of my HS Latin teacher, quoting the defunct UK humour magazine Punch, “Sometimes I sits and thinks, sometimes I just sits.”
