Local egg prices have been on a steady climb, but it’s largely due to a fire on S&R farms, which killed 300,000 hens last year, but more importantly destroyed a fairly new building. I think their 2.4 million hen operation accounts for about half of Wisconsin’s egg production. Talk about all your eggs in one basket.
Canadian tar sands oil is going to market with or without Keystone. That’s a fact so get over it. Keystone is just a transport medium that is infinitely much safer than rail cars. What Keystone will provide is thousands of construction jobs for the U.S.
Talk to the Kalamazoo and Yellowstone Rivers about how safe tar oil is in pipelines. We need a price on carbon. Since the American Government can’t buck it’s corporate owners, any little thing we can do to make fossil fuels more expensive helps alternative fuels and conservation, and is good for the planet.
On the hens, crawl into a cage giving you 1 inch of clearance for your body, live like that. Now make that cage at least big enough for you to turn around, and even hold your arms out, barely. That’s why larger pens lead to healthier animals and that means FOOD! I eat animals and say thanks to them, but the least we owe them for that is better and humane containment.
Just a note; as a biologist, around animals all my life, PETA nuts, drive me nuts, BUT that doesn’t mean animal cruelty should be excused either. When a penny more of profit, makes your product WORSE, and even dangerous to consume, what’s the objection to sound animal husbandry? Feeding cows, cows, finally led to a little “problem” with prion disease, just like anti-biotics in chicken feed (and others) that allow packing animals in, also create drug resistant pathogens.
Sometimes that penney earned by savings, simply kills…

No danger of that. But he did get to say sheeple twice, so I’m sure he counts it as a win.
