While I don’t like drones being used without on the ground target confirmation, which Obama did start calling for, they can’t touch the damage of noncombatant deaths of “shock and awe”, and carpet bombing Afghanistan by Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld.
Hey Bors, don’t like the use of drones, put your son on point on a mission that could have been done by a drone. No son or too young, volunteer yourself.
lopaka; my son WAS on the ground confirming targets, and having drones take the shot for them left their positions unexposed while still reducing “collateral” damage.
In Viet Nam we killed over a million “civilians”, and the work I did required taking more chances. It was also interesting that when in Iraq my son told how good some, not all, of their new vehicle armor (the windows) was, I had to relate that in my birds, or M151 jeep, we only had bad aim on the part of “Charlie” as “armor”.
For new and better tools to be used properly, they also have to be used “smarter”. Obama HAS done that. Collateral with drones and proper target assignment doesn’t klll nearly the numbers of “shock and awe” or carpet bombing, or the earlier use by Bushes, and that includes blowing up our own armor the first time around in iraq because some idiot looking at thermal images ordered helicopter pilots to fire, when the guy in the field KNEW they were our guys and he repeatedly refused to fire. Nobody not in the field should be allowed to make those calls!!
The “Hellfire” and other systems carried by drones are NOT “bombs”. The first guy offed by a drone in Afghanistan WAS just a goatherd who made the mistake of stading around with guys a few inches shorter than him. That is why Obama calling for more accurately directed targeting IS an important point, and difference from the Bush eras, yes, both of them.

Those guys are amateurs compared to LBJ and the Vietnam debacle. He managed to kill 100’s of thousands of civilians with nary a blink of the eye.

Problem is drones are programmed to drop bombs not shoot. bullets. So, holding up your hands will only draw unwanted attention to yourselves.
