Friends and I often play free-range Bocce when camping: no green, we just play through the woods, roads, meadows, etc. One time we tossed the boule and a dog ran out of a nearby tent, grabbed the boule and carried it all the way across a meadow, probably 200+feet. We played it anyway but we had to send out a spotter to keep anyone from stepping into the line of fire as we hurled our balls across the meadow.
