Statistics only matter when the RNC puts their spin on them? The numbers are calculated exactly like Bush did them, and though lower paying jobs, and less than full time have beome common, it started really hitting the fan around ’05 on that. The hit of ’08 really dumped on a lot of people, and the recovery has been slow, but oddly, not for the markets and top 1% deriving their incomes from capital, not paychecks.

Any organization that supports the opinion of a political party is praised and quoted as the last and best word on that topic. If that same organization fails to support that same party, or worse, refutes the claims and positions of that party, it is vilified as a tool of the opposition that deserves defunding and its management fired and if possible, prosecuted for misleading the public.2+2=4 ONLY if it suits an agenda. Otherwise, 2+2= X, and the value of x is decided by big money and political donors.Respectfully,C.

The stock market recovery helps more than the one percent. I am sure a lot of people have IRAs, 401Ks, insurance and annuities that depend upon the market. Home prices have been recovering also. The US economy has recovered better than most others in the developed world. The unemployment rate really is less than 6% and will probably continue to drop. Now if we can just get the tax code fixed to eliminate all the give aways and special interests and get some real investment back into R&D, we could be in stellar shape for the future. I would like to elect some Congressmen who would do that but I can’t find any.

Nowhere near enough people have 401k’s to overcome the raiding of pensions by stockholders.

That’s the typical Tea Party response to facts. “Just keep drinking the Democratic kool aid” which means I don’t have a reasonably viable response to the facts you just presented, I know that they will be supported by every credible source I will be able to find, and I don’t want to change my mind, so " just keep drinking your Democratic kool aid", and I will stay stupid.

Denis, as far as I recall, unemployment numbers have NEVER counted those who have ceased looking for work, only those who are actively searching or are on unemployment. I remember when I first heard about this during the Reagan administration and thought it was odd that they wouldn’t count people who wanted to work but had just stopped looking. A recent report on NPR said many of those not looking for work simply can’t afford to. Students who can ‘t find work in their fields, not just English majors and humanities students, and middle aged people, mostly men, who are overqualified for the positions available in their areas and they can’t move to another area because they can’t sell their houses or other reasons/excuses.People are easily duped, but only if they fail to dig into the sources of information and the objectivity, or lack thereof, of those sources.Respectfully,C.

Yes Morin, the RICH have done great under Obama.I thought you liberals were for the poor and the working class?Labor participation went to another new record low of 62 percent plus. So almost 40% of able,working-age adults SIMPLY DON’T WORK!Americans on food stamps are now 15 percent of the population. It was 11 percent when Obama took office. Disability claims have climbed 40 percent under Obama. Also, Median Income has not moved up a cent in the past 5 years under O despite prices for food and consumer goods being more expensive. So the average American is actually poorer.Ya Jim, everything is just peachy down hear so go call your stock broker and make some huge trades!

Respectful Troll: another little issue neither side addresses very often; there are a lot of jobs available out there, but the companies (corporate or individually owned) can’t find folks with the experience or training to DO THE JOB! This is notable in the trades where a college degree isn’t needed, but experience or lesser training is. Americans don’t seem to like training for “working class jobs” any more, the dream of being CEOs, without any work experience, is the new American dream sold in conservative, and yes, some liberal, sectors.

“no, Obama has made the numbers look better, in real life he is much worse then Carter...

“http://thehigherlearning.com/2014/09/08/is-obamas-economy-really-better-than-reagans-a-closer-look/”-Interesting link, Harley. Here’s another site with a link to charts giving some perspective to the President’s economic record:-www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2014/10/the-obama-economy-in-eleven-charts.php

Hmm, the Republicans were saying some time ago tht unemployment below 8% would be bad for them, and set out as much as possilbe to keep it high, but let’s hope they’re right, and some folks wake up in November and give their candidates the boot. Now that Cantor is gone, getting rid of Boehner would be a real gift to the nation from Ohio.

MangeyMoose: i think your situation is shared by a HUGE number of people. Looks like you’re working extremely hard, but with no results. I’m convinced that the corporate approach is to avoid older people, so as to have lower health costs, less use of retirement programs (as they get phased out entirely), and a more pliant workforce. That is, when they don’t just shift the whole company out of the country.

    I’m not optimistic.
