WASHINGTON — Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol , angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted “nigger” Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis , a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.
The protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus , lawmakers said.
“They were shouting, sort of harassing,” Lewis said. “But, it’s okay, I’ve faced this before. It reminded me of the 60s. It was a lot of downright hate and anger and people being downright mean.”
Over the weekend, Boehner especially came on as the dude throwing fish to the performing seals- THAT has been the “conservative” tactic for a long, long, time.
Hm – “To castigate an entire group because of the vile actions of a few is what liberals *do*.” That sounds a lot like castigating an entire group because of the vile actions of a few.
church, with all due respect, I find it offensive that you are suggesting that Lewis and others made up their accounts of being called racial epithets.
this alleged incident and or even if they were plants (I wouldn’t put it past the left to do such a thing)
^ well, when some call Lewis and others the “n” word, we don’t have to characterize them as racists, they flat out demonstrated they’re racist. What I wish would happen is that the leaders of the groups would denounce such comments. They speak volumes by their silence.
The toon is about McConnell and Boehner- and their attempts to incite a minority of the population that is extremely vocal, and has, through their own signs they wave, and words ,demonstrated intolerance, of almost anyone’s thoughtful input to dialogue. Quotation marks indicating those who may claim, but not espouse in reality a view or position, DOES limit the size of the brush to those who are indeed NOT representative of the whole.

OMG! Right-wingers do that too. It’s not a good idea to paint with too broad a brush regardless of what team you’re on.
