It’s funny why we stuff turkeys. One reason is that early ovens (ones made from clay) were so limited in space that the dressing was placed inside the turkey to cook. Another reason is that wild turkey tends to be very dry, and the placing of fruits and vegetables to cook in the body cavity was a very effective way to insure that the cooked bird would be moist after cooking as well as removing much of the “gamey” taste of a wild bird.
