That will just prove why they have a pet deposit. What I refuse to consider are places that charge monthly rent for pets. The deposit is potentially refundable, the rent is not.
Sorry to say Claire, but I’ve seen the damage a pet who doesn’t have a good owner can do. And with the laws written to protect the tenant, what is an owner to do?
That’s pretty standard, in my experience. I’ve been a home owner for 24 years but I think that was the norm when I rented, and as my kids have flown the nest they’ve experienced the same.
In Scotland the landlady was asking a first month’s rent, a last month’s rent, a 4!! rents deposit or else a full time job contract. The council had rejected my emergency housing application so I ended up in the youth hostel. I stayed there for a month and a half and then took the plane back home.
