Rufus’ cats don’t seem too happy in the last panel!

Can’t stand it when comic strips have SONGS in them—the CREATORS know how the songs are supposed to sound in THEIR heads, but WE don’t! Highly frustrating.

Can-can sales? I remember those from ads for Shop Rite!

Jim’s satire of a cans ad for a local supermarket is “Cancatstic”

@MJ; Yeh, you’re right..Shop Rite exists from NYC and up the Hudson Valley towns to the Albany area.. after that, Hannaford’s pretty much took over the upstate NY and western MA areas. Goodbye Grand Union, though !

Mice and Rice, Rats and Rice, Gophers and Rice. My cats would love it.

ShopRite is found from Maryland up to Connecticut. Their “Can-Can” sale event has been running annually (or more often) since 1971. I suspect the intended tune is the traditional one by Offenbach; it almost scans if you give three syllables to "Meowrice”.

The mice in a room full of cats made me laugh. My uncle took his Siamese out to a lake cabin to clear out mice. She was so mad about being transported that she made no effort at all, watched the mice climb around on the bed close to her, even.

Yes!!! Joel & Rufus!!! Great comic today! And, Joel doesn’t need a humidor… he keeps his Prince Albert in the can, until he fills his pipe!
