Hopefully the support from Walt and Skeezix will bring about results for this proposed veteran’s memorial.

Don’t know how that works for sure, but I think if your comment gets a certain number of flags it’s a gonner.

Devonshade, there’s nothing wrong with criticizing aspects of the cartoon, but insulting the cartoonist on a public forum crosses the line. That’s why your post was removed yesterday.

And if you’d rather not have future posts removed, you could do better than calling GoComics “nazis” for protecting the interests of the cartoonists who allow us to display their work.

While I totally support the DC memorial plans, please don’t forget the National WW I Museum in Kansas City. It is a fascinating place to visit and learn about this period of history that is increasingly overlooked.

Yes, Liberty Memorial in K.C. has been the only memorial to WWI in the country. Groundbreaking in 1921 was attended by General Pershing. Dedication in 1926 by President Calvin Coolige It was recently refurished and a museum added so that more of their collection can be shown. It has been designated a National Historic Site I think we need to quit cluttering D.C. with a memorial for every little group and start doing more for living people.

Agreed, marvee, but WW I vets are hardly a little group. I would support a memorial if they find a sensible place for it, i.e. not the Mall.

Devonshade I support your right to voice your opinion without being censored. Like I said yesterday, this strip has become a “sacred cow” to many of it’s readers.

Devonshade, I also support your right to voice your opinion. Write about your frustrations on your blog. Write a letter to Tribune Media Services and criticize Mr. Scancarelli directy. Just leave attacks on the cartoonist off this comments section.

    Let Walt live.

Kitty has already lived at least twice the maximum cat lifetime. If Walt lives twice the maximum human lifespan he will only be 240.

I still think we all understand that Frank Buckles is real and Walt is fictional. Jim knows that, too. I don’t see anyone comparing them. I see Jim honoring and promoting awareness of Frank Buckles by acknowledging his status in a venerable comic stip. None of us knows how Frank Buckles feels about these mentions. I hope he enjoys them, and that he’s a fan of the strip. I doubt he considers himself such a “sacred cow” that no one should portray his likeness or note his story in a work of fiction, especially one as big-hearted as Gasoline Alley. That there’s my honest opinion.
