    I knew a guy that what ever the person was selling, he didn’t have what was required. The callers would usually just apologize and hang up:

    Furnace cleaning? Our apartment doesn’t have a furnace. Carpet cleaning? We’re all hardwood and tile. AT&T? Sorry, we don’t have a phone…

    Digital Frog - I loved the last one!

    The scissors make it hard to use the phone afterwards, should you need to.

    I made a little switch that plugs into the phone jack that just shorts the two wires together. The line looks busy to callers and it just goes to voicemail.
