Too many young crazy men being “treated” with cocktails of psychotropic prescription drugs. They need to be committed to a prison looney bin like they used to be.

Yeah that would be great…except St. Ronnie shut down all those psychiatric hospitals and released all the inmates onto the streets.

Thanks Ronnie we’ll remember you forever (even if you couldn’t).

ConserveGov, we have prison loony bins right now. Tom Dart the Cook county sheriff was on TV the other day explaining how his prison is full of loonys who resist treatment. Most get dumped back on the streets after a short stay because they haven’t killed anyone yet. The situation is the same across the county. You have your wish, now what?

Who decides who has mental problems? Who determines the treatments? Who decides how long the treatments have to last? Who determines when the person is “cured”? Who pays for all of this? Who watches the “deciders”? What safeguards can we put into place to ensure that political opponents are not “eliminated” by declaring them insane and putting them away forever?

It’s easy to say that we should treat mental illness. The problem is that the whole subject of mental illness, its causes and treatments, are just a matter of educated speculation. Who are you going to trust?

A few weeks ago, a poster told of a method used in Canada, whereby two people had to vouch for the mental health of a gun purchaser. I like this. Granted, these people are lay people, but when the next door neighbor or your uncle is a true nutcase, you know it, even if you can’t put a fancy diagnostic name to it.

Although I think we can all agree that mental health needs to be an issue, it is one of the slipperiest slopes we can find. This is not something that can be rushed, nor can it be “one-size-fits-all”.

I remember getting under our desks in grammar school, practicing for a possible atomic explosion.

Today’s kids have to be on the alert so much more than we did!
