But there’s $100 million in the trunk from billionaire Tom Steyer to stop or delay the Keystone XL. Appears to be no policy that can’t be bought for the right price in plutocratic America.
First of all, he hasn’t stopped it and will probably approve it after the election when his own base can do nothing..Second, it’ll be a handful of temporary jobs sending Canadian oil to China and is not for our energy independence. If this were a Democratic proposal the republicans would reject it in a second.
XL has virtually nothing to do with jobs, GOP House killing ALL infrastructure jobs does! Ike’s interstate system designed to last 50 years, now overdue, electrical grid basically 100 years old, water/sewage systems generally need repairs.
The Ruby pipeline for natural gas from Wyoming to Calif. is now looking to extend to Coos Bay Oregon so they can EXPORT all that “critical” natural gas, that the industry folks now proclaim U.S. as Number ONE in production- so let’s export it, just like Canadian tar sands refined product!!
The “energy industry” IS controlled by the same folks that control all fossil fuels, and they’ve moved on to wind and solar as well, and have a finger for future possibilities in nuclear as well. Same guys, same con job, same victims: the citizens of the United States being ripped off, for land, taxes to support them, and products we need.
Republicans have proven that they do not deserve my vote. This does not mean I am a democrat. Democrats are clueless and leaderless, but they don’t always agree on everything, and that’s a plus. Republicans either agree to every point all the time, or they are cut loose. They’ve cut me loose, and I am not saddened.
Be that as it may, this is what I DO know: When the pipeline leaks (not if), it will pollute the biggest aquifer in the Midwest. This is what our farmers use during times of drought. I also know you cannot eat money.
I also know that pollution laws have been changed. Ask those people in Arkansas who had their neighborhood flooded with tar sand oil last year. Exxon did…….nothing about it. And they were required to do……nothing. So it will be with the XL pipeline. If anyone decides a cleanup is necessary, the bill will go to the US taxpayer; not the companies that are profiting from the pipeline.
Those things I know make me opposed to the XL pipeline. Even though I know that they make chairs and computers with plastic, and that plastic comes from oil. Interesting that my computer and chair exist without the pipeline having been built; therefore there must be other sources for plastic.
I looked a lot of that stuff up. I may not know everything, but I know what I know, and I know that the pipeline is a bad idea for the US.
In Maine, during the last several years, hillsides over the northern part of the state are now heavily populated by huge wind turbines. (I am not from Maine: I only have a camp up there). When the company wanted the OK from Augusta, the people of the area were told , among all the other platitudes about wind power, that their electric bills would be substantially cheaper. Not so. All the electrical power is sold on the GRID. Northern Maine families are still paying sizable electric bills.

Absolutely in agreement.
